Does Child Poverty in the Lower Mainland Concern you?

The truth of the matter is that child poverty everywhere in the world should concern each and every one of us but it is all too often that the issues in our own backyard are over looked. According to 2009 statistics 40% of the Food Banks clients in Greater Vancouver are children, that’s higher than the Provincial average of 31%. 13% of our children are living in poverty in Vancouver, that’s higher than that of the other major Canadian cities Calgary and Toronto.

If those numbers are too high for you to live with then join us in supporting the Toonies for Kids Societys efforts to decrease child poverty in Greater Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. The Toonies for Kids Society helps to fund local Children Initiatives that provide care and support to children in our community who, for whatever reason, are unable to experience the joy and excitement of being a kid. Whether it be through donations to a local Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, assistance to the food bank, or support of physical, emotional, and familial wellness programs, they prize and respect local children.

The Lower Mainland Children’s Directory, It Girl Party Productions and the Beat 94.5 are among the many sponsors of the upcoming Toonies for Kids Society Aladdin Casino Night taking place on Saturday May 14th at the Executive Plaza Hotel in Coquitlam. Come out for a great evening of dinner, dancing, a belly dancing show and try your luck in the casino to win some great prizes! Your support in their goal to raise $30,000 at this fantastic event is appreciated.
