Previously the BC Training and Education Savings Grant was available to families whose children were born January 1, 2007 and later so this is great news for all of us parents who just missed the cut off because their kid was born just a touch too early.
The government is expected to begin accepting applications for the 2006 babies around August 15th, 2016 and you’ll have until August 2019 to apply. So set a reminder in your phone, write it on a calendar whatever you need to do to remember that you need to apply and you could have an extra $1,200 to put towards post-secondary education, because lets face it every single penny counts.
The way this grant works is you have to wait until your child’s sixth birthday to apply and you have a deadline of that child’s ninth birthday.
If you haven’t gotten around to applying yet and you have a child who turned 6 in 2013, 2014, or 2015 an extension has been granted so be sure to check out the details on the program website to make sure you are eligible and meet the criteria for the extension.
