As a single mom its rare to get a night out of the kitchen unless we decide to splurge and order pizza so I can avoid chef and dish duty.
With a busy schedule that keeps us on the go 7 days a week it’s also difficult to pin down time to talk and enjoy each other’s company without feeling like we are on the clock all the time.
That’s why the ritual of getting dressed up and going to a restaurant is so special. It’s not about avoiding cooking and cleaning it’s about having that precious time with family and friends to catch up and enjoy each other’s company.
I don’t remember the last time my mom and I spent a relaxing night out at a restaurant, just the two of us, so when I was invited to a special pre- Mother’s Day dinner at The Keg Steakhouse + Bar I jumped at the opportunity. It was so nice to get out with 3 other mother-daughter pairs to indulge in a grown up mommy and me date night.
We actually had real conversations about topics not related to kids and schedules and I wasn’t asking her to babysit for once! My mom and I have always been close but with the hustle and bustle of our schedules and coordinating pickups etc. (she is my main childcare provider) it seems more often than not we are ships passing to hand off children at any given time during the week.
The Keg was a nice relaxing environment to sit back and be pampered for a couple of hours. We were at the Yaletown location which has a beautiful roof top patio, complete with outdoor fireplace and of course a retractable roof for when it inevitably starts to rain, since we are in Vancouver we naturally had the opportunity to see the roof in action during the evening.
We enjoyed delicious appetizers,
and even opted for dessert (which never happens).
The meal itself was fabulous, but I have come to expect nothing less from the Keg Steakhouse + Bar over the years, their hospitality combined with their menu will make any occasion special.
If you are still deciding what to do for mom this year maybe get dressed up and go spend some quality family time together at the Keg. The perfect Mother’s Day gift is the time you spend together but having the Keg feed you and clean up after is priceless.
Find a location near you and enjoy the moment.
