It’s hard to believe that we are in the midst of the last official week of summer vacation! The time flew by for us, we were busy traveling and discovering the wonders of Ontario and will have lots to share so come back if you are thinking about taking a trip back East with the family anytime soon!
I know some families may be looking at an extended summer if the teachers dispute isn’t settled in the coming days but let’s focus on fun for now, here’s a list of to-dos to make the most of the rest of your summer vacation.
If you haven’t already been out to the Fort Langley National Historic Site in the beautiful picture perfect Fort Langley now is a great time to head over there and experience life as the early settlers did. The Xplorers Program is an interactive tour of the site that will have the kids playing, discovering and learning! They can become a blacksmith, try their hand at the trading window, and see the place where British Columbia was born among other things! Pack a picnic or visit the on site Full Barrel Cafe and make a day of it! If you’re feeling really adventurous try to book one of the oTENTiks for a night or 2 and experience all the Fort has to offer!
If you are looking to get wet, and with the gorgeous weather we’ve been having why wouldn’t you? We had a great time at Splashdown Park this summer and highly recommend a trip to the park for you and the family before they close up for the Summer! If you have some time and are a water loving family why not get adventurous and go on a Waterslide Road Trip? A really fun way to end the summer and make awesome memories to boot!
The PNE is always a great way to celebrate the end of summer, with the Summer Concert Series, the new features and attractions, rides, games, and of course mini donuts it’s always a good time and an unforgettable day! If you have the time to head out one afternoon this week I’ve heard that the line ups are much shorter mid week afternoons, but don’t quote me on that because this advice has been given to many. 😉
An afternoon at the newest addition to the Cultus Lake area would be a great way to spend an afternoon, I’ve even packed the kids and head out there for an evening. The Cultus Lake Adventure Park opened earlier this summer and is a lot of fun, it looks stunning all lit up as the sky darkens and if you are planning to spend the day or night it’s within walking distance of the lake, the water slides, campgrounds and Dinotown.
Also in the Cultus Lake area and a perfect place for the little ones to hang out for an afternoon is Dinotown Funland! It’s not the Dinotown you’ll remember from the original Bridal Falls location but there are an awful lot of similarities. Dusty Bones and his family are still singing and dancing daily, many of the old Flintstone style cars have been refurbished and are on site along with a super fun water slide, playground, bouncy houses ( you have to go down the dragon slide) Dino digs, mini golf, zip lines, deal cars and boats and so much more! Pack a picnic and bring a towel you’ll easily spend hours in the park bouncing and sliding and zipping through the trees!
One place we did not have a chance to check out this summer but wanted to so badly- it was awesome a couple of years ago but my boy was still a bit too small to play without me fully panicking every 30 seconds is the Harrison Hot Springs Water Park. The inflatable fun right on Harrison Lake was super cool for me, but with a small and not very strong swimmer at the time of our visit it was stressful! It was our plan to visit this year now that he has graduated from water wings and life jackets but it just wasn’t in the cards. I still have a few days so it might just happen- keep your eyes on our twitter feed to see if we end up making it there!
If you are looking to relax, hang out locally and enjoy some time with family and friends without having to pack, drive or really prepare like me, I am pooped out! I need some down time and the last thing I want to do after a month of travel is travel some more! So here’s what I’m thinking will make a perfect low key long weekend to end an epic summer of adventure.
A chilled bottle of wine ( for me, not the kids)
Some home made frozen yogurt pops – try this recipe, it was a huge hit last summer
An inflatable pool (after I clean out the green slime from leaving it sitting out for that month we were away…oops)
Some Jimmy Buffet and Vanilla Ice playing on the backyard stereo
Giggles of delight as the children play happily and I relax on my hammock in the shade with a good book.
There may be a dip at one of our favorite outdoor swimming holes or perhaps a trip to the neighbourhood spray park or even an outdoor movie but the excursions will be kept close to home for sure!
This is the dream people…enjoy the last days of Summer vacation!
